About

I’m George Lockyer, a British contemporary painter born in Warwick. I make large, immersive mixed-media works: atmospheric worlds where the microscopic and the vast start to rhyme.

It started with dens in the forest. As a kid I was always off exploring the wilds, the rivers, Guy’s Cliffe. I’m a grown man now, but in the studio I’m still that kid in the woods, wide-eyed and lost in it.

I studied fine art at Falmouth, where I fell in love with the coast. Cliffs, tides, and gardens like Eden and Trebah, where wild ground meets careful hands. I’ve been drawn to those liminal places ever since, the edges where one world turns into another.

What I’m after is a touch of the sublime: that moment when beauty gets big enough to make you hold your breath. Every piece celebrates nature’s spontaneity, resilience and instinctive beauty, and I hope it stops you for a moment and reminds you how strange and wonderful this world is.

My work is held in private collections in the UK and internationally. I live and paint in Warwickshire.
